ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Exceptionally smart, highly educated, wickedly talented, and quietly exhausted — these are the professionals Casey Dixon has spent more than twenty years working with. Since founding Dixon Life Coaching in 2005, she has helped lawyers from more than 230 law firms, including many of the largest in the country, get out from under perpetual stress and back in charge of their own lives.

Her approach rests on one premise: don't try to change how your brain works — change the context in which it performs. That direct, pragmatic method suits fast-thinking people who are tired of advice that doesn't fit how their minds actually operate.

Before founding her practice, Casey spent fifteen years supporting students and adults with executive function challenges in schools and universities. She is an ICF Professional Certified Coach and a CCE Board Certified Coach with an international reputation for ADHD-informed work.

ABOUT THE BOOK

It's 10:47 p.m., and the document due three days ago is still blank. You know exactly what you want to say — you've written something almost identical before. You're a brilliant, capable lawyer who can close a deal and read a room in seconds — so why does simply starting feel impossible?

You're far from alone. Many lawyers live with the same chronic overwhelm behind an outwardly successful career. A 2016 study by the American Bar Association and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation found that 12.5% of attorneys self-report having ADHD — more than double the rate in the general population. Yet even as the legal profession finally confronts its depression, anxiety, and burnout crisis, ADHD remains the piece almost no one talks about.

The Focused Lawyer: Build a Practice That Works with Your ADHD Brain closes that gap. This isn't a memoir and it's not a theoretical textbook. It's a practical field guide — for thinking differently, trying differently, and building a more sustainable way to practice law with ADHD.

Casey founded Dixon Life Coaching in 2005 and has since helped lawyers from more than 230 law firms get out from under perpetual stress and back in charge of their own lives. Her approach rests on one premise: don't try to change how your brain works — change the context in which it performs.

In The Focused Lawyer, you’ll find:

  • Short chapters designed for overwhelmed minds and unpredictable schedules

  • Real stories drawn from hundreds of hours coaching lawyers with ADHD

  • Concrete strategies grounded in research and adapted to legal work

  • Tools and frameworks like reflection prompts, decision wheels, energy audits, and time design templates

  • Flexible experiments, not rigid systems, to help you personalize what works for you

And along the way, you'll be building something of your own: an ADHD-informed support structure that's actually built to last. This isn't about trying harder or wanting it more. It's about finally building a practice — and a life — that works with your ADHD brain, not against it.

Interview
INTERVIEW WITH CASEY

A landmark ABA study revealed that 12.5% of lawyers have ADHD (compared to only 4.5% of the general population). Casey Dixon had the opportunity to sit down with Legal Fuel hosts Christine Bilbrey and Jamie Moore to talk about why this higher rate exists and what lawyers with ADHD can do about it.
